Working with PK Joinery: Key Information for Project Teams
Pricing, measurement, drawing approval, manufacture, staging and delivery of bespoke timber joinery.
Pricing and design development
PK Joinery can review projects at different stages of design development.
Where drawings and specifications are well resolved, there may be sufficient information to establish a detailed preliminary quotation directly from the documentation supplied.
Where information remains incomplete, PK Joinery identifies the additional detail required. Depending on the project, an initial price may be developed before every selection or dimension has been finalised, with subsequent revisions reflecting the confirmed scope.
Timber, profiles, finish, glazing and hardware all influence price and therefore need to be identified to an appropriate level at quotation stage.
Measurement
For most projects, a formal site measure establishes the dimensions used for final manufacturing documentation.
This provides a point of reconciliation between the design documentation and the constructed or existing opening. On alteration and heritage projects, measurement may also capture existing profiles and details that need to be retained, repaired or reproduced.
During the measurement process PK Joinery offer experienced advice towards design solutions, often in complex builds.
Manufacturing drawings and approval
Following confirmation of dimensions and specification, PK Joinery prepares project-specific CAD drawings.
These drawings translate the agreed joinery into manufacturing information and provide an opportunity for the relevant project parties to review the final configuration before production.
Manufacture does not commence until drawing approval has been received.
Changes during the project
Changes are not unusual, particularly on larger projects.
A revised glazing selection, hardware change, altered profile, different finish or dimensional revision can affect both the joinery specification and price.
Where changes arise before manufacture, drawings and pricing can be updated to reflect the revised requirements.
Changes introduced after manufacturing information has been approved require assessment against work already committed or underway and may affect cost or timing.
Manufacture and staging
Bespoke manufacture is planned against the approved project information.
For larger projects, manufacturing can be staged rather than treating the entire joinery package as a single production event. Deliveries can also be sequenced where appropriate to the project.
The appropriate staging depends on the scope, manufacturing requirements and agreed delivery requirements.
Delivery and site interface
PK Joinery generally manages delivery using its own vehicles, with freight providers used where appropriate.
At delivery, responsibility shifts from controlled factory conditions to the construction environment. Protection from weather, moisture, physical damage and inappropriate storage therefore becomes particularly important.
The installation methodology and interface between the joinery and building envelope remain matters for the relevant project design and construction team, with project-specific consideration required under the applicable Building Code compliance pathway.
After delivery
Care and maintenance information is provided for completed work, covering coatings, cleaning, hardware and the ongoing protection of timber joinery.
PK Joinery remains available where project-specific questions arise after delivery. For project-specific questions, unusual details or early-stage coordination, contact PK Joinery to discuss the information and manufacturing considerations relevant to your project.
