Information Requirements for Bespoke Timber Joinery Pricing
The project and specification information that contributes to a well-defined preliminary quotation.
Project Information
The information available at pricing stage varies considerably between projects. A fully documented construction package may provide almost everything required to establish scope and price. At an earlier design stage, some selections may remain unresolved and require clarification or clearly identified assumptions.
Useful project information includes:
- Relevant plans and elevations
- Sections and architectural details
- Joinery schedules, where available
- Scope and approximate quantities
- Programme or required delivery dates
- Heritage or other project-specific constraints
Joinery specification
Dimensions and profiles
Overall dimensions, section profiles and architectural detailing establish the physical scope of the joinery.
Timber
Species selection affects material cost, appearance, durability considerations and finishing requirements.
Glazing
Glass type and build-up affect both glazing cost and the joinery required to accommodate it.
Hardware
Hardware requirements can affect component cost, machining and joinery construction.
Finish
Paint, stain or other finish requirements form part of the overall specification.
Project location
The project address and site conditions can influence the joinery specification. Exposure, including the applicable wind conditions, may affect design requirements and pricing.
Where these elements have not been finalised, PK Joinery can identify what needs to be resolved and whether pricing can proceed using agreed assumptions.
Existing and heritage joinery
Where new work is intended to match existing joinery, photographs, drawings and details of the original work are particularly useful.
Heritage projects may require closer assessment of existing timber, profiles, mouldings, glazing patterns, hardware or other original fabric. The applicable requirements depend on the individual property and approvals rather than on a single standard approach.
Measurements
Accurate dimensions are fundamental to bespoke manufacture.
For most PK Joinery projects, a formal measure is undertaken before final manufacturing information is prepared. Where an enquiry is still at an early stage, preliminary dimensions may be sufficient to establish an initial scope and preliminary price. Final pricing and manufacturing information can then be updated once accurate dimensions and selections are confirmed.
From quotation to manufacture
Once the project reaches the appropriate stage, PK Joinery prepares technical drawings from the confirmed project information and dimensions.
These drawings provide the manufacturing definition of the joinery and are issued for approval. Manufacture begins only once the drawings have been approved.
For larger or evolving projects, changes to selections or scope can be incorporated during the process, with drawings and pricing revised where required.
Submitting project information
Plans, drawings, schedules, photographs and relevant project files can be supplied to PK Joinery for review. Complete documentation is useful where available, but a project does not need to be fully resolved before the first conversation.
If you have a project ready for pricing or would like to confirm what information is required at the current stage, contact PK Joinery or submit the available documentation through our Build a Brief tool.
