Custom Timber Windows for an Architectural Bethells Beach Home
Bespoke cedar joinery shaped around an architectural vision
Set within the coastal landscape of Bethells Beach, this architecturally designed home called for exterior joinery that complemented its distinctive design and connection with the surrounding environment.
PK Joinery was commissioned to manufacture the exterior timber joinery for the home, including cedar windows and bifold doors. Among them was one particularly memorable feature: a large circular window that required the team to draw on its experience in complex, curved joinery.
The result demonstrates what bespoke timber joinery can bring to an architectural home, particularly when the design moves beyond conventional shapes and standard solutions.

Challenge
When the design calls for something different
Curves introduce a very different challenge to conventional window joinery. Where straight lines and square corners provide familiar reference points, a circular window demands accuracy throughout the entire form.
For the Bethells Beach residence, that complexity was part of the architectural intent.
The circular window needed to work as a functional piece of exterior joinery while also delivering the clean, precise form envisioned for the home. It was the kind of detail that called for experienced craftspeople with a strong understanding of timber and the skill to work confidently beyond standard window configurations.
Process
Craftsmanship in curves
The circular window was custom made from cedar in the PK Joinery workshop.
Before installation, its substantial round frame reveals the craftsmanship behind a feature that appears deceptively simple once incorporated into the finished home. Achieving that simplicity is where experience matters.
Creating curved timber joinery requires careful workmanship and precision to produce a consistent form and a high-quality finished result. For PK Joinery, it is an example of the specialist skills developed through decades of manufacturing bespoke timber windows and doors.
That expertise also allows architects and homeowners greater freedom when approaching a project. Rather than limiting a design to standard joinery shapes and sizes, unusual details can be explored and manufactured specifically for the architecture.
Materials
The natural warmth of cedar
Cedar was used for the home’s exterior joinery, bringing warmth and natural character to the architectural design.
Alongside the circular window, PK Joinery manufactured the home’s timber windows and bifold doors, creating consistency across the exterior joinery package.
From inside the home, the timber frames become part of the experience of the surrounding landscape. Large areas of glazing open the rooms to the views beyond, while the circular window creates a much more deliberately framed outlook.
Its deep cedar surround transforms a functional window into a distinctive architectural feature.
Outcome
Bespoke joinery that belongs to the architecture
The completed exterior joinery feels integral to the Bethells Beach home rather than simply added to it.
The circular window is an obvious focal point, but it also represents something broader about PK Joinery’s approach to custom timber windows and doors.
Architectural projects don’t always fit standard dimensions, shapes or solutions. When a design calls for something more unusual, the answer lies in understanding the material, working through the complexity and having the craftsmanship to execute the idea accurately.
At Bethells Beach, that expertise helped turn an unconventional circular window into one of the home’s defining details.
